Osun explosion: APC, PDP trade accusations

By Gbenga Faturoti / Osogbo

Controversies have trailed the explosion, which occurred in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Tuesday, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused one another of culpability.
While the PDP accused the ruling APC in the state of being responsible for the incident, the latter also claimed that PDP should be blamed for it.
It would be recalled that an Improvised
Explosive Devise (IED) went off in Ile-Ife on Tuesday causing confusion and panic in the ancient town. Though no life was lost in the incident, it was gathered that residents of Ile-Ife were running helter-skelter for safety.
In a statement issued by the state Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of APC, Kunle Oyatomi, it claimed that the PDP in the state has introduced terrorism into politics of the state.
According to the party, “political terrorism is being introduced into the State of Osun by desperate PDP politicians who want to snatch power by all means and it would appear they have the blessing of the Presidency.
‘With Boko Haram terrorists devastating the North East of Nigeria and stretching the security forces to their limit, it is inconceivable that the ruling party will be setting off political terrorism in the West in addition to Boko Haram in the North’.
The APC alleged that PDP attack on its supporters at Oke Bale on their way to a mega rally, as well as PDP’s thugs’ ripping of posters and destroying billboards of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Ilesha are some of the violent means being introduced into politics in the state.
The PDP, in a swift reaction by Director of Media and Strategy, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said since the assumption of Aregbesola in the state, the frequency of bomb blast has been on the increase.
The party noted that this is contrary to the peace the state enjoyed over the year.
