25 pro-Amaechi lawmakers dump PDP for APC

The 25 pro-Governor Chibuike Amaechi lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly have unanimously dumped the party that brought them to power, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The lawmakers formally announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress, (APC) on Wednesday.
About 13 of them were present at the sitting where the announcement was made.
“We are telling the world today that we are all members of the All Progressives Congress. All correspondence to us should describe us as APC members”.
On his part, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Leyii Kwanee said the defection became imperative following their continuous suspension by the leadership of the PDP in the state.
Kwanee noted that the members craved for a platform to allow them run elections as 2015 approached.
Responding to the defection, the Speaker of the House, Otelemaba Dan-Amachree requested other members to formally document their decision.
Meanwhile, one of the pro-Amaechi lawmakers, Golden Chioma, who was kidnapped by gunmen, has been freed by his abductors.
His release, Wednesday morning, came less than 24 hours after the seventh Legislative Assembly, in a motion of urgent attention, appealed to the suspected kidnappers to free him unhurt.
The lawmaker, who is representing Etche Constituency 2 and Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, was abducted by unknown gunmen on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, in Diobu axis of Port Harcourt.
Leader of the House, Chidi Lloyd confirmed the development to the media in Port Harcourt.
It could not be ascertained if ransom was paid before he regained freedom.
