Boko Haram: Nigerian Army Make Threats To Journalists Over Terrorism Reports

The Nigerian Army in Akwa Ibom State has threatened to arrest journalists who publish stories on the arrest of some persons suspected to be terrorists. The Commanding Officer, Ibagwa Barracks, Abak Local Government Area of the state, who issued the threat when our correspondent called to confirm the arrest, threatened to deal with any journalist who dares to publish a story about him or the barracks.

It was learnt that some soldiers from Ibagwa Barracks, on Monday arrested some persons suspected to be terrorists. A senior military officer, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said some persons had actually been arrested, although he was silent on whether the arrest was in connection with act of terrorism.

But, a resident of the area, Mr. Emmanuel Edet, told our correspondent that the soldiers from the barracks brought in some persons suspected to be members of a terrorist group. He stated that he was in the barracks when the incident happened, although he was not sure of where the suspects were picked up from.
“The soldiers actually brought in some people to the barracks on Monday. We did not know where the suspects were picked up from, but we suspect they are terrorists,” he said.
